Perfect weather at Bald Eagle Lake

The Fair family sent an expedition to the BWCA this year, after a number of sad years with no such adventure. The Boundary Waters is a favorite family tradition, and the draw was just too strong for the old hands and the uninitiated alike. So we hit print on the Excel autogenerated menu/grocery list, made a big mess in Mom's kitchen packing everything from SunDin to FriBreak, and set out on the 200 something rod portage to Lake Gabbro. We were glad to slide our canoes up on the beach of our 2006 Bald Eagle Lake campsite, after just about enough paddling (always into the wind), dissappointment, worry, radio communication (...crackle, 'uuuuh, copy that, north campsite #2 occupied with at least one tent, returning to base, over'...), and genuine pleasure at being back on the prettiest lakes anywhere.

Next week, I'll write (see previous post about my writing skills/commitment) some more reports and stories of this years adventure. For now, here are some of my best pictures. This one of Staci is my favorite. The serenity of the lake at sunset, and the mystery of the wilderness at dusk, and the beauty of my wife! I'm trying to figure out how to get the rest of my picture directory dumped here. I wish I could post a zip file.

My buddy (at least he was before I dropped the biggest northern either of us had ever seen) and now seasoned north country paddler has a great site with a bunch more pictures.

Opening up

I've never written a blog before, or much of anything for that matter. I have a really nice leather bound journal that I wrote in daily a couple years ago while courting my wife. But then I moved back to the States to be closer to her, having popped the question, and I wrote quite a bit less, since I could just tell her everything I was thinking. Then I became an employed engineer (again) and a husband (first and only time), and I spend all my time as one of the other and not much as a writer.
We spend a lot of our time as a couple cooking, since that's a hobby we share. And I spend time at the office working, time in the shower engineering (all good ideas start there), and most of my interesting reading takes place ..., well you know.
So I thought I would open a blog to have a place to write. To try out the whole blog thing. And to not always have to note my million dollar ideas in my company logbook.
I'm probably not much of a writer; I'm not sure this first post even makes sense. But then it does'nt really matter much. Its a blog.
